One Soldier's Price

By Jim Hoskins

You can hear it in the wind, blowing on a fresh spring night.

You can feel it from your Mother's heart, you know everything's alright.

You can see it in the eyes of a child, who's content with being free.

You can't package it, sell it, or wrap it up, it's just something that has to be.

But, can you see it in a soldiers eyes, or feel it from his heart?

A man of shine and polish, whose life may soon depart.

A man who has a memory of a girl where he used to stay.

A man with a family and hopes, that are all so far away.

He crawls, he aims, he pulls the trigger, he fights so he won't die.

He does it because he knows this thing, the reason it is and why.

He knows what can be taken away if the war he fights ends.

His freedom, his family, his life, where can he begin.

He stoops over his buddies body and prays to the lord above.

You can see it now, one soldier's price, the price he paid for Love.
